I have worked as a curator and programmer for museums; as an editor and author of books, magazine articles, and online texts; and as a professor, grant panelist, and prize juror. I was previously executive director of Gallery TPW in Toronto and, before that, curator of photography at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Prior to my time in Ohio, I worked as an editor at Aperture Foundation and at Artforum.
I am the author of the 2016 book Kentucky Renaissance: The Lexington Camera Club and Its Community, 1954–1974 (Yale University Press) and the editor of two previous anthologies published by the New Museum and Sternberg Press. A longtime art critic, I have written catalogue essays for numerous museums and have been published in Artforum, Frieze, Art in America, Aperture, and elsewhere.
