I am the founder of And Others, a small editorial and creative studio, and an editor, writer, and independent curator in Toronto. I was most recently executive director of Gallery TPW in Toronto and, before that, was curator of photography at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Earlier in my career I worked as an editor at Aperture Foundation and at Artforum.
I am currently curating “Art’s Biggest Stage: Collecting the Venice Biennale, 2007–2019,” which opens next July at the Clark Art Institute. I am the author of the 2016 book Kentucky Renaissance: The Lexington Camera Club and Its Community, 1954–1974 (Yale University Press) and the editor of two previous anthologies published by the New Museum and Sternberg Press. A longtime art critic, I have written catalogue essays for numerous art museums and my features, columns, interviews, and reviews have been published in Artforum, Frieze, Art in America, Aperture, and elsewhere.
