Brian Sholis is a freelance writer and editor living in New York. He is the co-editor of Younger Than Jesus: The Reader (New Museum/Steidl, 2009) and The Uncertain States of America Reader (Sternberg Press, 2006). His reviews of exhibitions and essays on artists have appeared in Artforum, where he is Artforum.com Editor at Large, Aperture, Parkett, and numerous other publications and exhibition catalogues. His reviews of books have appeared in Bookforum, The Village Voice, The Virginia Quarterly Review, The Brooklyn Rail, Frieze, and elsewhere. He has taught at New York University, been a visiting critic at more than a dozen art institutions in the United States, and is currently studying American history at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He is married to artist Julia Dault.

After four and a half years on the editorial staff of Artforum, his recent freelance editing clients include La Biennale di Venezia, Venice; the Institute of Contemporary Art, London; Thyssen-Bornemisza Contemporary Art, Vienna; Creative Time, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; and Sternberg Press, Berlin/New York.
